Walt Disney World Resort

In pairs the children explored different types of maps today....theme park maps! They looked at how these maps work and how symbols and legends are used.

There were so many rides to go on, shows to see, characters to meet and treats to taste. We were all so excited that we just had to visit ourselves... Virtually we took a trip to Disney's Magic Kingdom and Blizzard Beach water park...it was super fun!

The class have started designing their own theme parks and forming their own maps- creating their own symbols and legends. They are LOVING it!

Happy 8th birthday, Pallas!

Thursday 9th June

Our first week in Florida!

As top geographers the children explored and mapped the human and physical features of Florida.

Following on from this, they set an itinerary for their holiday and used coordinates and compass points to give directions to the various attractions they hope to see.

Plants!

The sweet scent of beautiful flowers filled the JSH on Wednesday, as Tim Hancock, Izzy's uncle, shared his gardening passion with the Year 3 children. Tim, who owns his own garden centre, brought an array of plants to share with the children, along with his wealth of knowledge. The children asked LOTS of questions, and were very excited to take home their own Begonia.

Flying to Florida!

Yesterday the children planned their flight path using atlases and the internet. We agreed to depart from London Heathrow and fly into Sanford airport, Orlando, flying over the Atlantic Ocean.

Enjoying the 8 hour plane journey...

Happy birthday, Annabelle!

Happy 'school' birthday, Jemima!

Happy birthday, Niamh!

Yesterday was a special day for Niamh, not only because it was her 8th birthday, but because it was the first time it had fallen on a school day! How exciting!

Dissecting flowers

What are the parts of a flower? Why are they important?

How much do we waste?

To finish our geography topic, we carried out a class investigation to find out how much waste each class produces.
Together we decided how we would investigate this, drew up a data collection table and, with gloves securely on, delved inside the bins!

Poetry

To introduce the new English topic we played a 'Speed poetry', a game somewhat like speed dating! The children moved around the classroom exploring different types of poetry and recording these.
Examples included; shape, limericks, riddles, acrostic, nursery rhymes, haikus, nonsense, narrative.

Throughout the week, the children have been playing around with different types, and have enjoyed following the rules to make up their own and performing them!

Check out some examples below:
