English
To help improve their writing, the children have been using prepositions (for location) in their sentences.

Maths
In maths this week, the children have been practising their times tables, doubling and halving and identifying odd and even numbers.
The children need to be secure with all doubles up to 10+10 and their corresponding halves, and should now be practising their 3, 4, and 8 times tables. They should be secure with 2s, 5s and 10s, so please recap these if necessary. Thank you

Super Science!
Following on from learning about the food groups and what it means to have a balanced diet, we looked at how these nutrients, as well as oxygen and water, are transported around the body.
Through drama, the children showed food working its way through the digestive system, and the nutrients heading into the blood stream and being used around the body, as part of the circulatory system.
Mapping deserts
In Geography this week, we explored the location of hot and cold deserts around the world...and found a pattern...
We discussed the Equator, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, wind belts, and why deserts have little rain.
Top Geography guys!

Greater than, less than
Today in maths, we were comparing 3 and 4 digit numbers.
With a good understanding of place value - specifically the place of THousands Hundreds Tens and Units, the children were able to compare numbers and use the correct maths vocabulary when giving reasons.
Remember the crocodile always eats the larger number... So must be facing that way!
There seemed to be a few hungry crocs in the library...
Settings!
Our first literacy topic this year focuses on stories with familiar settings.
As a bit of a warm up for some super 'settings' writing, the children had a go at describing a seaside setting.
To help with this, we of course had to stimulate their senses....
What might you hear?
What might you see?

Topic
We kicked off our first topic of the year with a team sorting challenge.
The children sorted a selection of photos into categories; hot, humid, arid, cold, wet. This generated a very lively discussion!
Marvellous Maths!
Number bonds
Firstly, using multiples of 10
We know 7 + 3 = 10,
so 70 + 30 = 100
As well as corresponding subtractions.
Secondly, we used multiples of 5...these were a little trickier!
I.e. 35 + _ = 100
_ + 55 = 100
Welcome
Thank you for visiting our class blog! We'll be keeping you updated with some of the things we've been up to during the week. So please come back and check this out! Love 3D :)
